AI Fundamentals for Kids

Your child will use AI either way. This course makes sure they use it well.

A self-paced online course that teaches 10–16 year olds how AI actually works, how to prompt it properly, how to create real things with it — and how to stay safe, honest and sceptical while doing it.

The parent problem

Every parent is asking the same three things

🤷

"They're already using it — I just don't know how."

Homework, games, group chats. It is already in their life, usually without a single rule around it.

📝

"Is it doing their thinking for them?"

The difference between a tutor and a shortcut is a skill. Nobody is teaching it at school yet.

🛡️

"How do I know what's actually safe?"

Fake images, made-up facts, data they should never share. They need to spot all three themselves.

This course turns AI from something that happens to your child into something they understand and control
  • Six short modules they can finish over a weekend or a month
  • Real projects, not quizzes — they finish with things they made
  • An entire module on safety, honesty and thinking critically
  • Written for kids, but designed so you can follow along too
The curriculum

Six modules, in the right order

Each module builds on the last: understand it, talk to it, learn with it, create with it, build with it, then question it.

01

What AI actually is

The demystifying module. How a machine learns from examples, why it makes mistakes, and where AI is already hiding in their day.

  • Learning from data, explained simply
  • AI vs. a normal computer program
  • Where AI already lives: maps, feeds, games
  • Why AI gets things confidently wrong
02

Talking to AI properly

Most kids type six words and accept whatever comes back. This module teaches them to ask like someone who knows what they want.

  • Giving context, role and format
  • Following up instead of restarting
  • Getting AI to explain its reasoning
  • Knowing when the answer is nonsense
03

Learning with AI, not cheating with it

The module parents care about most. Using AI as a patient tutor rather than a homework machine — and knowing exactly where the line is.

  • Turning AI into a study partner
  • Fact-checking before trusting
  • Academic honesty in plain language
  • Revision techniques that actually work
04

Creating with AI

The fun one. Images, stories, music and video — plus how to keep their own voice instead of sounding like everyone else's chatbot.

  • AI images and illustration
  • Story and comic writing
  • Music and voice basics
  • Making it theirs, not the machine's
05

Building a first project

From consumer to creator. Your child ships something real — with AI as the assistant and them as the one making the decisions.

  • Planning a small project properly
  • Building with no-code AI tools
  • Testing, fixing and improving it
  • Sharing it safely with family
06

Staying safe & thinking critically

The module we would make compulsory if we could. What never to share, how to spot a fake, and how to stay the sceptic in the room.

  • Personal data: what never goes in a chat
  • Spotting deepfakes and fake images
  • Misinformation and AI bias
  • Healthy habits and screen limits
What they walk away with

Not a certificate. A folder of things they made.

Every module ends in something finished — so the learning is visible to them, and to you.

🎨

An illustrated short story

Written by them, illustrated with AI, laid out as a small book they can print or share.

🧠

A personal study assistant

A prompt set-up they keep using — for revision, explanations and practice questions in their own subjects.

🛠️

A first working project

A small no-code build — a quiz, a helper bot or a simple page — that actually runs and that they can show people.

🔍

A fake-spotting habit

The reflex to check before believing. The single most useful thing anyone can learn about AI right now.

Safety & responsibility

Designed for parents to feel comfortable saying yes

We treat safety as curriculum, not a disclaimer. Here is exactly how this course handles it.

Parent-purchased, parent-supervised. The account is yours. Any tool sign-ups are done by an adult.
Age-appropriate tools only. We demonstrate mainstream tools that are suitable for this age group with adult set-up.
A full module on safety. Personal data, deepfakes, misinformation and bias — taught, not mentioned.
Honesty is taught explicitly. Module 3 is built around using AI to learn rather than to avoid learning.
No live chat, no community. There is no forum and no messaging — nothing for a stranger to reach your child through.
Watch it yourself first. You have full access to every module, so you can preview anything before they see it.
Is this right for my child?

This course is built for them if…

They are between 10 and 16 and already curious about AI — or already using it without much guidance.
You would rather they learn the rules from a structured course than from a friend at school or a YouTube short.
You want screen time that produces something — a story, a project, a skill — rather than another hour of scrolling.
"

We built this course after the same parents who took our business masterclass started asking a harder question: what should my kid know about AI? This is our answer — the version we would want our own children to watch.

Who is teaching this

The same academy that trained 3,000+ adults

SkillsUniversity.org has been teaching practical AI since 2021. Our business masterclass has trained over 3,000 entrepreneurs and 100+ businesses across India, the UK, Europe and the US.

This children's course applies the same principle in a different room: teach only what is genuinely useful, cut everything else, and make sure the learner can do something with it by the end of the week.

Parent questions

Frequently asked questions

Ages 10 to 16. Around 10–12, most children enjoy it most with a parent nearby for the first module or two. From about 13 upwards, they generally work through it independently and come to you with what they made.
No. There is no coding anywhere in this course. Everything is done with no-code tools in a normal web browser. If they can use a laptop for school, they can do this.
It teaches the opposite, deliberately. Module 3 is entirely about using AI as a tutor rather than a shortcut: getting explanations instead of answers, fact-checking what the AI says, and understanding why work you did not do yourself is worth nothing to you. Most children have never had anyone explain that line clearly.
No, but we recommend watching module 1 and module 6 together — the foundation and the safety module. Everything in between they can do on their own. Account set-up and any AI tool sign-ups should be handled by a parent or guardian.
Any laptop, desktop or tablet with a browser and internet. A laptop is most comfortable for the creating and building modules. The AI tools demonstrated have free tiers that are enough to complete the course.
Some children finish over a weekend. Others do one module a week alongside school, which we slightly prefer — the projects land better with a little time between them. There is no deadline and access does not expire.
Enrolment covers one household — siblings can watch together on the same account. If you are a school, tuition centre or club wanting to teach a group, email contact@skillsuniversity.org and we will sort out a group arrangement.
Email contact@skillsuniversity.org within 7 days of purchase and we refund you in full. No form to fill in and no reason required.
